Sony’s presence at the CES 2011 was by no means unnoticed. The company has introduced its latest line of 3D Blu-Ray players, including the top-of-the-line BDP-S780 model, featuring 3D capabilities and networking features.
The 2011 line of Blu-Ray players consists of four new models, coming in a more traditional design in comparison to 2011 models from other companies.
The Sony BDP-S780 is the flagship model of the line, and comes with both 2D and 3D capabilities as well as the ability to upconvert your old DVD collection to 3D and compensate for the current lack of 3D content available. The BDP-S780 also comes with features such as Super Bit Mapping and Chroma Color Processors, helping this Sony Blu-Ray player to render much more accurate colors and an increased detail level.
Aside from the latest generation technologies on the market, the flagship BDP-S780 model also comes equipped with networking features. You will be able to access online streaming services such as Amazon VOD, Pandora, Hulu Plus or Netflix and even YouTube and Slacker in your search for fresh content. There is also support for the latest video on demand service coming from Sony, Qriocity. Further more, you’ll be able to find features such as DLNA to help you wirelessly stream content among DLNA enabled devices and USB ports to help you play content directly from external devices.
The next two models in the 2011 line are the BDP-S580 and the BDP-S480 Blu-Ray players coming with 3D capabilities as well as DLNA. Last but not least, you’ll be able to find the Sony BDP-S380 which isn’t able to handle 3D and doesn’t support DLNA, but instead features USB ports on-board.
As announced by the company, the Sony BDP-S780 will be available for $194.99 in April 2011. As for the other models in the line, the BDP-S580, the BDP-S480 and the BDP-S380, they will become available in March of 2011 for $200, $180 and $150, respectively.
